Anti-Resolutions

1.)    I will steer clear from the really old men at work. I work at a little family restaurant and through the year that I’ve worked there I’ve found that only the oldest of men are the perverts and the grabbers…

2.)    I shall stress no more. All my life I’ve always stressed over the smallest things and this year I plan to just go with the flow. Yes, it may be my senior year but I know that I’m going to graduate so there’s no worry there.

3.)    I will not “race” with Shelby on the highway. I’ve found that racing down the highway probably isn’t the best of things to do being how the first and last time we did race, there was a semi that had slowed down to a complete stop in front of me and I just about rear-ended him.

4.)    I will not allow Facebook gibberish get the best of me. When I was younger I thought Facebook was the coolest thing there was and the more friends you had the better. Well now I despise Facebook for everyone does nothing but complain, post things that make absolutely no sense and “fight.”

5.)    I will no longer go above and beyond. At work all the morning waitresses will complain non-stop about how something wasn’t done right or at all when the open in the morning. When I close I am always the last one to leave for I triple check everything and go above and beyond to please them but nothing ever seems good enough. So, in order to make my point I just get the easy things done and clock out and go home. There has always been dispute between morning and night waitresses but by doing this maybe they’ll see that enough is enough and they better appreciate what I did because I will no longer try to please them.

6.)    I will no longer “people watch” out loud. It has always been a little thing that my mom and aunts always did when we’d go places such as Wal-Mart. We would kind of just look around and joke about what we saw and what people looked like but I found it quit embarrassing when we realize that we are the loudest whisperers there are and are glared out of the store.

7.)    I will no longer watch game shows on T.V. The little time my dad and I have to spend together at home we usually watch T.V. except I absolutely hate watching games shows with him such as deal or no deal, wipeout, etc. My dad and I should be those people that sit in the audience and make all the effects because we are constantly yelling and getting mad at how stupid the people are and how they could have done things better or not have done what they did before. It’s a bit ridiculous.

8.)    I will no longer arrive to school late. I have never really been to school late before but once in a while, such as today, I didn’t wake up until 8 o’clock this morning. It might not be a big deal for those who live in town but for those who live 20-30 miles away from school, yah, it’s kind of a big deal.

9.)    I will bring on my “attitude” at work. My job is full of a lot of smack talking and he said she said business. We had a new waitress and two of the other night waitresses told her that she would not like working with me because I have an “attitude.” Truth is, I do not have an attitude, I just get mad at simple everyday things that would make other people mad as well. But, when I get mad, I don’t talk very much unless it’s to my customers and I have a really serious face. They had this poor girl all scared to work with me and when she said that I showed some attitude and the next day, that girl was a no call-no show and was fired. Mission accomplished J

10.)  I will no longer ride in my brothers “Man-Van” My older brother had recently wrecked his 2012 Chevy Cruze so it put him into a little debt causing him to purchase an old minivan from our neighbors in Carthage so he can go to and from work. Christmas eve rolled around and I was to ride with my brothers, Billy and J.P, to Arkansas for our family gathering. When they came and picked me up we were riding in the “Man-Van.” When I climbed in there was absolutely no room due to the presents but I managed to squeeze in the back. The bad thing about that drive was both of my brothers’ smoke; one smokes cigarettes and the other smokes cigars. They both had their windows down non-stop causing the cold air to bash me in the face and every time they ashed the ashes went right in my eyes, mouth, nose. Ugh, so terrible. Merry Christmas to me.

  1. I cannot believe your brother had just wrecked his 2012 Chevy Cruze. It is such a nice car but I believe his insurance company is not too happy to know about the accident. Moving on to your attitude, it is only a matter of life. Everyone has an attitude and it is not your fault that you express it. No one should be complaining about your attitude because it is natural human behavior. Just be yourself :] Arriving to school late is natural for some but do not make it into a habit. School is school and it will not make a difference once you reach college or enter the work force. Most of the people I know do not even want to go back into their high school years. Overall, life is full of bad people, gossip, and corruption. Do not change yourself to benefit others. Instead, just be yourself and live happily with what you have done. You can never go back to change the past but you can always do something to alter your future. Good luck :]

  2. By the first one i'm already laughing, because I find that to be completley truthful. One time at Happy House I was like would you like your ticket and he was like only if it has your number on the back,I mean how do you even respond to a 40 year old when I clearly look underage! Siiiiick! Old guys gross me out, always looking at me goods at what not. (totally kidding about the good part) The second one caught my attention because lately I am stessing over every aspect of my life and i'm starting to realize the small things don't matter and that everything will be ok. At this moment I can't really relate with your work ones but I remember when I did have a job and working with customers who were just outright hatefuil, it was really hard to act nice and keep my composure like I was supposed to. I like number 6. ALOT probably because when I go to the mall thats where most of my humor comes from I would rather go there then to actually shop, that's one thing me and my mom just get a hoot at. Especially when girls get so dressed up just to find boys and vice versa. I really enjoyed reading your antiresolutions I hope you can overcome them! Goodluck!

  3. Well Kenzie, i have to say after reading a couple of your Anti-Resolutions i had to just laugh because when it comes to having an "Attitude" i could see you doing something like that, for i probably would to. :) There are times though when it comes to people you work with that its best not to have an attitude. No matter how funny it might be. :) I totally agree with you on your whole old guy stuff, because that kinda thing would get old really fastly. I would be saying a few choice words before they left the resturaunt, but no matter it is what it is. :/ As long as you have fun and do the best while you work you will do good :)

  4. Mickenzie, I absolutely loved your anti-resolutions. The ones about waitressing I can definitely attest to. People can be so terrible in a restaurant setting and I am very happy I am out of there. However, there is one thing on this list that our views differ greatly on: game shows. I absolutely love game shows. Give this girl a marathon of Lingo, Wheel of Fortune, Let’s Make a Deal, or Deal or No Deal any day of the week. I can see why you do not like them though. I also understand your Facebook resolution. It is obnoxious when people post everything on there and when fights break out. I try not to involve myself with it that much anymore; it just causes problems. Also, I’m sorry your Christmas wasn’t great. Best of luck fulfilling all of your anti-resolutions and I greatly look forward to sharing this class with you.

  5. Oh jeeze! he wrecked a 2012 Chevy Cruze!? Those things are so nice, and get such good gas mileage. Tell me he had full coverage. As for #1 if you’re not comfortable where you work get a new job. Like if you work for a company or corporation that stuff will not be tolerated and will be dealt with and will be prosecuted by the company you work for. I've weighed out the pros and cons of working for a company and working somewhere family owned and i believe its much better working for a company.

    1. Oh my gosh, I find it absolutley hilarious how both you and Sura are sooooo consurned with that Chevy Cruze! They are very nice cars indeed. I had a white one and my brother had a black one, both standered little 5 speed cars. Pretty nice, pretty nice. And no, I'm pretty sure he only had liability.

  6. Mickenzie,
I can relate to a lot of your anti-resolutions. My dad and me watch T.V. a lot together but we never turn on game shows. Except wipeout because we both think its hilarious but we watch shows like Duck Dynasty and Man vs. Wild. As for your attitude, I have one to. Although, I am much more of a mellow person, I don’t get angry a lot and I can control my temper. Yet I do smart off sometimes even though I shouldn’t and I show attitude to people who rub me the wrong way. For your last anti-resolution I am very sorry, I know how that feels. My nana smokes and I breathe it in, which is not a good thing because I have asthma. Being squashed in a car with nowhere to get away from it sucks, also, sorry you had to go through that but I hope the rest of your Christmas was better. :)

  7. Mickenzie, I'm definitely glad there are plenty of other waitresses in this group because I know how you feel about every work-related resolution! I have noticed it's always the old men that think they can wink at you every time you walk by and its okay. Most of them are harmless but there can be some real creepers! The old men always seem to comment on my "red" hair as well. I have one man that simply calls me "Red" every time I see him. Good luck with not stressing; I'm having a difficult time with that one myself. Senior year is definitely stressful and I hope we can power through together! At my job we also have morning and night waitresses and there always seems to be a fight about something. Considering a good portion of our waitresses are still in high school doesn't make things any better. I hate working my butt off only to see lazy coworkers doing the bare minimum, but I guess there will always be those people anywhere you go. I definitely look forward to reading all your posts. Here's to our last semester!

  8. Dear Mickenzie
I enjoyed reading your posts and I can find myself relating to some of them. I think the first one is really funny to the fact I hope that is me when I get old not a grabber though. I find it is hard not to stress anything because then you find yourself stressing everything in reality. Racing is fun why would you want to stop? I find myself racing friends all the time and it’s actually kind of amusing to see who will race back even when you don’t make a verbal statement of go! I hate Facebook it used to be cool back in like 7th grade but it has become so big and such a part of everybody’s life they don’t even realize it next will be pintrest… I have to ask where do you work at? Getting to school late is perfectly ok especially if you don’t get tardys

If I were you i would take old men grabbing you as a complement. No no im just kidding, you should just try as hard as you can to not let it bother you and try to stay away from them. However sressing out sucks. I can honestly say I find myself stressing everyday and it is so hard to not stress. So I wish you the best and hope you never stress again. Good thinking not to race, well, it depends if its in the middle of the day when traffic is out then no but if its like at three in the morning go fo it! Facebook pshh I love facebook but its a website that is filled with insults and drama so I never take anything seriously on it. Good idea not to show up at school late because it makes me dread going to school even more. Just think the faster you go to school the faster it will get over with.

  10. Dear Mickenzie
i enjoyed reading your anti resolutions, i thoroughly enjoyed the "man-van" and feel your enthusiasm with not having to ride in it anymore. i feel sorry for the cruze though they are nice cars but hoope he gets out of that situation and gets back on the positive financial track. I also love how you are trying to change yourself at work. We all retain some kind of pervertedness through the years but the grabbing is not what we all do in that age. They can try to play it off but i wouldnt try to.

  11. Mickenzie, I like your idea of bringing your attitude to work even if you don't really show it and scaring off the other waitresses. It does sound kind of cruel but it's funny at the same time, although it is kind of rude of the girl to even tell others that you have an 'attitude' when you didnt really have one. I do agree with the Facebook drama part and seeing people insult others and talk down about someone when it's obvious who they're talking about and I just find that just plain mean. It is a good idea to not show up to school late but I wish you could have done it the first half of the semester when you and I had the same first hour class. Now I'm just sitting by myself...but good luck this year!
